Opening Weekend

Friday August 30 – Saturday August 31

The opening weekend of the festival is the first in a series of High Tides. This expansive public programme runs throughout September 2019, and is guided by the formulations of the curatorial arms.

Opening of Exhibition

Reception at the former Lofotposten building. Music by the men’s choir Lofotr accompanied by Terje Brun, joik performances by Biret Ristin Sara and Ravna Anti Guttorm, and the first part of the Songs of the Uncontained performance by Talluz (Viktor Pedersen). The evening ends in an opening party with Andrrey.

Saturday August 31


10:00: A Reading

The artist Tricia Middleton reads from her text Troubles with Boundaries within her exhibition space at the North Norwegian Art Center gallery. Audience is limited to 25 people.

11:00: Talks
A series of conversations between the artists and curators. Artists participating: Futurefarmers, Toril Johannessen, Jackie Karuti, Damla Kilickiran, Signe Lidén, Tricia Middleton, Kateřina Šedá and Morten Torgersrud. At Styrhuset Pub.

12:00 and 18:00: Performance
João Pedro Vale & Nuno Alexandre Ferreira hold the performance lecture Semiótica do Bacalhau/Semiotics of the Cod involving collective cooking and the sharing of their research insights during their LIAF 2019 residency. Audience is limited to 50 People (Requires RSVP – details will come) – includes food & wine.

15:00: Cinema Premiere
Trygve Luktvasslimo‘s film Shallow Water Blackout premieres at Svolvær Film Theatre, attended by the artist and members of the cast.


17:00: Performance

The second part of the Songs of the Uncontained performance by Talluz.

20:00: Sculptural Intervention
Devil’s Apron (Kåre Grundvåg and Trond Ansten) initiate Intertidal Shelter Part I – an artistic sculptural intervention and a speculative attempt to create a sculptural home for the inhabitants of the tidal belt.

20:18: DJ set
PLO Man and Hashman Deejay, whose DJ set will respond to the average 6 hrs 12.5 minute transition between low tide and high tide.


21:30: Concert

A live spatialisation of the early feedback compositions from drone music pioneer Éliane Radigue, performed by Emmanuel Holterbach.
