The Kelp Congress book presentation
Please join us at Atelier Nord (Olaf Ryes plass 2) on Monday 21 September at 18:00 hrs. Register to attend here.

Assembled from a collection of international and multispecies perspectives, The Kelp Congress is a gathering of artworks, essays, photographs, poems, stories, and other writings that contribute to the recent interest in kelp and seaweed within contemporary art and thinking. The book forages for the insights that emerge through spending time together with these ecologies, revealing their inherent and entangled values. Caught in currents and movements seaweed and kelp are living structures in which other beings exist, organize, eat, seek shelter and rest in. Their biological conviviality is unique – and so is their ability to create a good atmosphere.

The book The Kelp Congress has grown out of the event of the same name, which was part of LIAF – Lofoten International Art Festival 2019. The programme will be guided by two of the editors of the book, Hilde Methi and Annette Wolfsberger, with contributions by Svein Ingvoll Pedersen, Signe Lidén, Øyvind Novak Jenssen and Viktor Pedersen. It is co-organised with the publisher North Norwegian Art Center – NNKS, and more information on the book can be found here.

The event will be in English. It is free of charge but registration is required. Please be aware that there is limited capacity. The presentation is arranged according to current guidelines for infection control.

The book was made possible through the generous support of Nordic Culture Point, Nordic Culture Fund, and Arts Council Norway – Project Support for Environmental and Climate Crisis.
